In Canada unfit livestock are not transported because it is considered to be inhumane. It is considered “causing undue stress“ to load, transport or unload animals unfit for transport according to our federal livestock transport laws.
Our livestock industry has guideline booklets for the humane handling of dairy, beef, pigs, sheep and horses. These booklets are at all auction markets and in the hands of producers, inspections and truckers.
We have a trucker training program and all truckers know they cannot accept a downer or injured animals.
