Interactive Info Wheel

wheelAFAC’s Farmer Care info wheel addresses the how and why of animal care using the science of animal behavior.  It helps us talk to children about how farmers respond to the needs of animals.

The multiple-choice questions for the info wheel are targeted towards elementary school age children. But, fairgoers of all ages enjoy playing the game.

The info wheel provides an opportunity to open dialogue with the public regarding animals in agriculture. It allows the public to analyze the information and hopefully reach balanced conclusions.

AFAC Education Resources

AFAC has developed curriculum-based, farm animal welfare resources for Alberta students. Through an exploration of the needs and behaviors of farm animals, these resources explain how farmers are sensitive to their animals and provide for their needs. <more>

Video Loop

displayA short, fast-paced 2-minute loop is designed specifically for trade shows.  It pulls people to the display with its real on-the-farm images and music.

Quick copy messages run throughout the video. Thus, if only seen for 30 seconds, consumers catch nuggets of information on how farmers care for their animals. The video loop shows a variety of Alberta livestock farms and today’s livestock production.

Consumer Handouts

rulerThe AFAC rulers / bookmarkers reinforce the farmers care message. AFAC’s web site is shown in big bold letters on the rulers to encourage children to surf our animal welfare informative site.

Look for the AFAC display at Aggie Days and City Slickers, events that directly target students and teachers.

We Care Message Delivery Program Components

  • wecareWe Care badge — the We Care badge was developed for exhibitors to wear at events. The badge, visually telling the message to fairgoers that they care.
  • We Care table top boards and poster — a poster to display at each exhibit, reinforcing the animal care message.
  • Livestock Exhibitors Code of Practice — the proper care of animals is just as important at a show or exhibition as it is on the farm. Fairs and exhibitions use the Livestock Exhibitors Code of Practice as a guideline for what is expected of exhibitors in the handling, care and exhibiting of all farm animals.

This is a province wide program, the materials are available at no charge. Currently AFAC has sent We Care program package request to CAP representatives, Ag Societies, fairs, agriculture commodity groups and individual producers who use the posters and badges at public events.
