Questions to Dan Murphy

Are European people as disconnected from agriculture as we are in North America, and if so, how does the EU do the research and form the regulations for animal welfare that we do not?

The short answer is yes and no. Yes, much of Europe is urbanized (although not nearly as much in Eastern Europe), so there are a relatively small percentage of people who have firsthand knowledge of agriculture. But Europeans' attitudes toward farming are more complicated, and to better answer that, read "In praise of Euro-wisdom" an essay that explores that very issue.

I would like to take an opportunity to spread the word in a positive manner. I am speaking to the Canadian National Ag Awareness Conference in August. I would like permission to utilize the messages that you have professed, and take it to a wider audience of Ag Educators in Canada. May I use your notes as a basis for one of my speeches?

Yes, you may certainly use my presentation as the basis of a speech there. I would ask if that person is willing to identify themselves, just so we can correspond, if that's helpful. Also, in case AFAC doesn't have it already, I'm also attaching my "Seven Habits of Highly Successful Activists," which might be helpful for the speaker.

AFAC note: if others wish to use his presentation contact Dan at danielmurphy1@msn.com
